Washington vacation

We got back from our vacation to Birch Bay, Washington on Wednesday evening.  We had a great time with Ryan's parents.  We flew to Seattle last Tuesday the 10th and then drove two hours north to Birch Bay, which is about 15 minutes from the Canadian border.  It was in the 50's for most of the week and rained about 3.5 days but it was just a gentle rain and we were able to get out and about several days.  We took a scenic drive on the Chuckanut Drive.  We went on a whale watching boat tour, where we did not see any whales but we did see sea lions, seals and other wildlife.  It was early in the whale season and they were still trying to find the whales.  We enjoyed a bumpy, watery ride back which Ashlyn laughed most of the way.  Blessedly we were in an enclosed cabin on the boat.  We visited a Dutch town and I had the best cup of hot chocolate with whipped cream.  The rest of the time we hung out at the resort, walked on the shore and just relaxed.  Ashlyn had a great time with Grandpa and Grandma!  We created lots of great memories.

Getting her nap in on the plane in preparation for our big vacation

Ashlyn enjoyed going back and forth across the aisle between us and Grandpa/Grandma.  She also enjoyed looking out the airplane window.

We were greeted by this majestic site on our first visit to the roof of our resort.  He was sitting on the top of a tree just off the roof.

Beautiful scenery

It may have been in the 50's but Ashlyn was still able to play on the shore

Now this is the way to throw a rock into the water

Mom, do you see any whales yet?
No, but there are some sea lions
Walking along the sand at low tide

Ashlyn made her first trip across international borders.  Even if it was just for a few minutes while we were walking in the park on the US side.
Look whales!

We went back to Seattle a day early so that we could go to the Crab Pot.  We had seen this on Man vs Food and really wanted to try it.
We took on the seafood...

...and won!
Ashlyn enjoyed her dinner of chicken tenders and fries as well
Playing in the kiddo play area at the Seattle airport before we got on the plane to come home.
Enjoying her last few hours with Grandpa and Grandma before saying goodbye.

What a great vacation!  Thank you Grandpa/Grandma for such a great trip.  We love you!
